Ollie's Brewery was founded in 2016 in Rumney, Cardiff. Ollie's brewery is named after Jon's rescue dog, Ollie, who was found wandering the streets of Cardiff in 2012. He was rescued by Jon and his family just a few weeks after his stay at Cardiff Dog's Home and, like people often comment on their rescue dogs, he was a completely different character once he was brought to his 'forever home'. The shy, scared, yet hyperactive pup turned out to be a relaxed, content and confident dog who fit perfectly into the family.
Kennels can be a very tough experience for dogs waiting to be rehoused. It's noisy, stressful and we don't know how they deal with the abandonment from their previous owners, or difficulties they may have expereienced. Friends of the Dogs Wales is a charity that help promote dogs for rehoming, as well as fundraising to promote the well-being of the dogs during their stay. More about the fantastic work they do can be found on their website www.friendsofthedogs.org.uk
It was through their website listing the dogs looking for homes that we found Ollie. As thanks for this, 10% of the profits from Ollie's Brewery is being donated to the Friends of the Dogs Wales charity so that more dogs can find their ideal home, and have a less stressful time while they wait.
Sadly, Ollie passed away peacefully in his sleep in May 2017. Despite only living a short seven years, we know the five years he spent with us were the best of his life - he was always a happy and content puppy that we'll miss forever.
Of course his memory lives on through this brewery. but to celebrate his life and raise awareness of Friends of the Dogs, we ran #Olliesday - an extraordinary day of funding to honour the life of an extraordinary dog. More here.
